"From Reflection to Resilience: An Exploration into How Organizational Systems Generate Adaptive Coherence within Uncertain Conditions"
Doctor of Design, NC State University — Expected 2027–2028
Research Interests
How organizations generate adaptive coherence — a workable, shared sense of what is true and what to do — under conditions of uncertainty. I draw on John Dewey's theory of inquiry as adaptive, experimental learning; Norbert Wiener and cybernetics for the mechanics of feedback and self-correction; Walter Fisher's narrative paradigm, which explains how organizations construct and are governed by the stories they tell about themselves; and Niklas Luhmann's systems theory, which accounts for how organizations process and reduce complexity to remain functional.
Why It's Not a Departure
This research isn't separate from my professional path — it's the theoretical formalization of a problem I've spent over a decade solving in practice: how to help organizations understand people, interpret ambiguity, and act with coherence.
